There are 2.3 million humans currently incarcerated in the U.S. Each has somebody who loves them, whose life has been altered because of these circumstances. SHARED SENTENCES explores the stigma and shame, the financial burden, the loneliness and isolation, and even the moments of heightened joy and love that these individuals all share.
SHARED SENTENCES is an original play that explores the toll of incarceration on families and loved ones. The piece is helmed by Emily Joy Weiner (Co-Founder and Artistic Director of HOTM) in collaboration with Director Kimmarie Elle (Original company of STOMP) and an ensemble of individuals who have all had an incarcerated loved one. SHARED SENTENCES seeks to bring unique theatrical representation to the experiences of millions of Americans who are currently serving time “on the outside”.
